Wilderness Retreats

You don’t have to be an avid lover of the outdoors to benefit from the gifts it offers. Stepping out of our typical environments into the natural world helps us shift into a different mindset. Time moves differently here and our minds open to deep truths that were there all along but we were too busy to see.

Whether you’re simply tired and in need of rest, or you desire time to discern and gain clarity, these single day trips offer an opportunity to step away from your normal routine and gain insight into who and where you are.

1-Day Retreat

Upcoming Dates: September 16 and October 28

These one day retreats, situated at The Hermitage – a retreat center near Three Rivers – are intended to give you time to slow down, listen and rest.

You’ll spend most of the day in solitude and silence, having your own personal cabin in the woods or a room at their main retreat center. Each cabin has a wood stove or heater and outhouse, but no electricity or running water. The rooms at the main buildings have electricity and restrooms.

Whether you choose a cabin or a retreat center room, The Hermitage is a place of simplicity, with no-frills accommodations. These more rustic conditions are helpful — taking us out of our normal habits and busyness so that we might be more alert, aware and open.

Participants will have freedom to create an agenda (or no agenda) for the day that suits their needs and desires, as well as the option of a one-hour Spiritual Guiding session.

Included:

  • A secluded cabin in the woods or room at the retreat center.
  • A one-hour Spiritual Guiding session with Chris (although not required).
  • Lunch and snacks
  • Carpool to and from the Hermitage; however, you are welcome to drive yourself if you would prefer to make your drive an extension of the solitude and quiet of the day. The Hermitage is a little over an hour south of Grand Rapids.

Details:

  • Cost: $125
  • Leave Grand Rapids at 7:15am, return at 6pm.

To ask questions, or reserve your spot, please use the form below. Indicate whether you plan to attend the September 16 or October 28 retreat. I will follow up with more details as well as next steps for reserving your spot.

1.5 Day, 1 Night Retreat

Dates to be announced soon

This slightly longer retreat also takes place at the Hermitage, and shares a similar purpose: to provide space and time to reflect, discern and rest. It can be challenging to step away from our typical responsibilities, but the gift of additional time allows for a longer pause and a deeper quiet.

Included:

  • Overnight lodging at the Hermitage, either in a rustic cabin or a private room at their main building.
  • Breakfast and Lunch on the 28th
  • A one-hour Spiritual Guiding session with Chris
  • Transportation to and from the Hermitage, although you are welcome to drive yourself if you would prefer to make your drive an extension of the solitude and quiet of the retreat.
